A total of 73 schools sent teachers to workshops where they collaborated in small groups and experienced the process of planning and writing a short story based on a selection of images, and were thus eligible to enter teams of students in 'Shorts' 2012. There were two categories in the competition, the Short Shorts category (short stories of 300-600 words) and the Long Shorts category (short stories of 600-1200 words). In both categories, students were required to collaborate in teams of 3-4 to plan, write and record a short story based on a selection of images provided by the NET (The Native-speaking English Teachers) Section.
The 'Shorts' 2012 entry deadline was 25 May 2012 and we received a total of 92 entries from 39 schools. There were 66 Long Shorts entries and 26 Short Shorts entries. In each category, judges decided on a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winner, as well as seven certificates of merit. The prizes will be announced at the NET Section Competitions Awards Ceremony for Student Production and Performance on Tuesday, 3 July 2012.
