Kidsunlimited Cheshire

Pre-school children enjoying a story
All our children enjoy exploring and using their imagination with books and magazines. We re-create stories using puppets or actions to encourage the children to make up their own stories from experiences they have had.

Parents enjoy coming to the nursery to read to the children which supports our strong bonds with families.

Kidsunlimited St Marys

Here at St Mary's nursery, as part of our ongoing relationship with our parents, we opened the door for them to come in and read stories to their child and their friends. We are a very diverse nursery and have many bilingual and trilingual children and parents. One of our pre school parents came in and read to the children in both English and French, which is her mother tongue.
'This morning, I read two books (one in English, one in French - my mother tongue) to my son’s group at Kidsunlimited nursery and it has been a great experience!!'
I’m a bit of a bookworm myself and I love reading books to David before he goes to bed, but it was the first time I read books to an audience of 3 and 4-year-olds. The children were just fantastic: they listened to the story: The Teeny Weeny Tadpole with their mouths wide open, they commented on the different animals pictured in the book: That's Not a Tadpole, That's a Purple Monster!, loved the repetitions 'boing!!!' and also paid attention to all details: 'look at the ladybird! The tadpole just jumped on its head!'.

They made me smile with all their comments, and it was just fantastic to read a story to such a young and interested audience.

The children then talked about what they liked about the story:

Thomas: 'I like the pig because he plays with much pup in the mud'.

Rufus: 'I like the farmer's wife because she doesn't should like the mucky pup'.

Poppy: 'I like him best when he gets clean'.

Max: 'I like the cat because he doesn't want to play with Muck Pup'.

Robert: 'Mucky Pup tells the horse to play with him'.

Aleyna: 'Muck Pup like the piglets'

Rose: 'I like Much Pup splashing in the water'.

Dylan: 'I like Mucky Pup asking the little chicks to play with him'.

Amber aged 4 years then read the story to the children, please listen to this on the audio below:

We have just read Doing the Animal Bop. The children are aged between 3-5 in our pre-school room.
They absolutely love this story and can imitate the actions of the animals whilst reading and doing some of their own dancing. Their favourite has to be the Monkey who jumps and wriggles to the animal bop.
This is what some of the children said:
‘The cow goes moooo’
‘I have a lizard at my house’
‘I can see the Rhino’s bottom’

Kidsunlimited Didsbury Going on a Bear Hunt

Today the pre-school children had a discussion about their favourite book and we decided it was Going on a Bear Hunt. The children had a discussion referring to the book and used language which is used within the story.
When playing outside they re-enacted the story and went on their very own bear hunt! They collected wood, made trays of thick oozy mud, long wavy grass and we even had a swirling whirling snowstorm.
After searching the play area, battling the elements and walking through lots of obstructions, we found 2 bears hiding in a cave!
When returning to the classroom we re-read the story and discussed the adventure we had outside searching for the bear.

Aliens Love Underpants proves to be a popular demand by these toddlers

In Toddler 2, we put the Flying Space Man song on and 3 Little Men In A Flying Saucer. We then came across an alien and we all said “Hello” to him. The alien spoke to Laura and said that he would like to read his favourite storybook Aliens love underpants. As we were reading the book, the alien flew around our heads to bring life into the story.

When the story had finished, we said goodbye to the alien and put him away with his spaceship.

Funny quote “The spaceman lives on the moon”

Read My Dust & Write My Progress

Monday 2nd July - Sunday 6th July, across the nation.

How much more excitement can be rabbled by this year's Manchester Children's Book Festival? Easy, much more! This year, the MCBF team have put together a reading and writing relay, sponsored by kidsunlimited, allowing anyone and everyone to show their reading capacities and writing abilities in any size, shape or form.

On Monday 2nd July, a reading with Cathy Cassidy at Longsight Library will kick off the relay, dispersing our physical and virtual batons across the nation. While the physical relay will travel through schools, libraries and where ever else groups decide to gather, a virtual relay will be shown right here on the relay blog. Save it to your bookmarks and set reminders on your calenders, as this will be the place to be for the duration of that week.

We would like to invite you to be involved in this exciting race also. So if you find yourself interested, taking part is a piece of pie. You can send any texts, photos or videos to mcbf@posterous.com and see your content uploaded on our blog. Unfortunately we cannot receive HD clips yet, so please make sure the video is a standard recording before sending.  Alternatively, you can click the 'start recording' button here in the right sidebar and let us hear, in a 3 min clip (or as many 3 min clips as you like), your contribution to the relay. If you let us know who you are and where you are, we'll add you to our reading and writing relay map. Don't forget, you can keep yourselves up-to-date with the virtual relay by following us on twitter @mcbf2012

Whether you’re a school arranging an in-class reading, a group of adults planning an overnight read, or a children’s writer working on a new story – get involved and share! If you want to give us the heads-up before the relay takes off, send us your details in an email and we'll keep our eyes and ears open for your coverage.
